Panaji : The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on Monday terminated the primary membership of its lone MLA Viresh Borkar with immediate effect, following disciplinary proceedings under the party’s constitution.
The RGP stated that Borkar is no longer authorised to represent it in any capacity or issue statements, press releases, or communications on its behalf.
It also urged the public, media, and government authorities to disregard any representation made by him in the party’s name from the date of his termination.
The announcement was issued by RGP general secretary Vishvesh Naik.
Describing the termination order as a “joke”, Borkar in response said that it was issued by a suspended general secretary and is therefore invalid.
Declaring himself as party’s national president a few days ago, the St Andre MLA had dissolved all its existing state, district, block, taluka and ward level committees as well as other organisational committees with immediate effect and announced fresh elections for all the executive committees within 45 days.
Subsequently, party office was found sealed on Sunday, allegedly following directions issued by Borkar. It triggered protests by several RGP supporters, who gathered outside the office demanding an explanation for the move.
The supporters raised slogans and questioned the decision to seal the party office.
The legislator claimed that, as the national president of the party, he had already dissolved all party committees, making the Monday’s order null and void under the party constitution.
Borkar termed the move undemocratic, asserting that all powers of the party rest with him.
He said the vested interests behind the recent developments would be exposed.
