Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar is set to join the Pramod Sawant-led Goa government, with his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Saturday, November 7.
According to an official communication issued by the Department of Information and Publicity, Amonkar will be sworn in as a cabinet minister at a ceremony to be held at 10.30 am at Zuari Hall, Lok Bhavan, Dona Paula.
The cabinet berth had remained vacant following the demise of Ponda MLA and then agriculture minister Ravi Naik in October 2025.
Earlier, BJP Goa president Damodar Naik had hinted at an impending cabinet induction while responding to questions from the media.
Amonkar had won the 2022 Goa Assembly elections as a Congress candidate from the Mormugao constituency. However, he later joined the BJP along with seven other Congress MLAs.
He was appointed chairman of Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Limited last year.
Sources said the induction is meant to strengthen Amonkar’s position in Mormugao for the 2027 Assembly polls. The constituency has significant political and economic presence due to port and industrial activities.
Amonkar is the third MLA from the group of eight to be in the cabinet. First was Aleixo Sequeira who quit due to ill health then making way for Digambar Kamat in August 2025.
