Curchorem
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday stated that around 380 grievances were registered at the Sarkar Tumchya Dari programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem, the highest number recorded at the programme so far.
The number of complaints reflected concerns about the functioning of government offices,
said Sawant.
He stated that lower attendance at such programmes indicated that the government machinery was functioning efficiently. The main grievances raised on Friday concerned Mhaje Ghar, roads, electricity, water and other issues.
He directed the authorities concerned to issue no-objection certificates (NOCs) to houses marked as illegal (often abbreviated as ‘ILL’) or EHN (Enabling House Number) by panchayat authorities.
He also directed officials to explain the Mhaje Ghar procedure to residents.
Reacting to the programme, former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar stated that the BJP government remembered people as elections approached.
“The organising of the programme itself indicates that the government machinery is not functioning efficiently,” he said.
Patkar also criticised Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, stating that he had failed to provide basic facilities such as roads and water despite serving twice as a cabinet minister over the past 15 years, first as power minister and later as PWD minister.
“The government hospital inaugurated by the health minister in 2024 still lacks the required doctors and equipment, despite assurances that it would provide medical facilities to Curchorem, Cacora, Sanvordem and surrounding areas,” alleged Patkar.
He also criticised delays in the sports complex project, stating that its estimated cost had risen from Rs 7 crore to Rs 50 crore and that the work had now been re-tendered at Rs 55 crore. “Although some work has been completed, the project had been delayed considerably,” he said.
