Panaji: The SIR Citizens’ Monitor Goa objected to the Election Commission of India’s decision to extend the deadline for claims
and objections to the draft SIR electoral roll to January 19, terming it “meaningless” as it gave people “virtually only one extra day” to search for important records.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of Goa and the PGRS Cell of the Election Commission of India, the group said informing the public on January 17 about an extension only up to January 19 was “meaningless”.
Several voters are struggling to collect documents, especially those required to submit birth-related documents of their mother or father, the letter stated.
