‘Will bring greater transparency, address unauthorised operations’
Panaji: Minister for Transport and Panchayati Raj Mauvin Godinho on Friday said the government had outlined measures to streamline transport operations and improve the process of panchayat-level mapping and surveys across the state.
Godinho said that, as far as the rent-a-cab segment was concerned, the government had completed an audit of operations and was preparing to introduce new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
“The proposed framework is aimed at bringing greater structure and transparency to the segment while addressing unauthorised operations,” he said.
Godinho stated that the new guidelines were intended to ensure that rent-a-cab operations functioned within a clearly defined regulatory framework, with the government seeking to streamline the segment and improve compliance.
The government is also examining the process for conducting surveys and mapping of panchayat areas.
Godinho said specialised agencies might be appointed for the exercise, taking into account differences in terrain and geographical conditions across various regions of the state.
“While some panchayats have reportedly attempted to conduct surveys independently, the government is currently collecting information from the local bodies before taking a final decision,” he said, adding that the government wanted to assess the practical requirements before finalising the survey framework.
