A pillion rider of a two-wheeler was killed while its rider seriously injured after a speeding high-end car collided with the bike at Dona Paula around 12.06 am on Monday.

The Panaji police have registered an FIR against the driver of the high-end car Darius Andrew Dias (21), who is a resident of Bogmalo in Mormugao taluka.

The police said the pillion rider Diksha Parwadkar (23) died in the accident, while the two-wheeler rider D Arun Kumar (26) sustained grievous injuries.  Kumar is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dona Paula,  the police said.

Dias  drove the yellow colour Mini Cooper in a rash and negligent manner at around 12.06 am opposite the road crossing junction, near a starred hotel at Dona Paula. He  was  travelling from Dona Paula towards  the Goa University side, the police said.

When the car reached near the road crossing opposite the hotel, it dashed against the two-wheeler. Kumar and Parwadkar were travelling towards Goa University.

The impact of the collision caused Kumar and Parwadkar to fall off the bike. They fell on the road, the police said, adding that Parwadkar succumbed to injuries, while Kumar sustained grievous injuries.

Kumar and Parwadkar had left after their duty at the starred hotel in Dona Paula, the police said, adding that they were working at the front office department.

A cousin of the deceased woman told mediapersons that there were talks regarding settlement of the case. He said they are not ready for settlement and sought strict action against the car driver.

On the alcohol test of the driver, the police said the medical report is awaited.

The police have registered an FIR under sections 106(1), 125(b) and 281 of BNS 2023.
