Margao

Margao municipality councillor Sweta S Lotlikar was elected unopposed as president of BJP’s Fatorda mandal on Saturday.

The announcement was made during a gathering where party leaders urged workers to unite and work towards securing a victory in the constituency in the upcoming elections.

Former deputy chief minister Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar, who served as the returning officer for the election, described the process as smooth, with Lotlikar being the sole nominee for the position.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat emphasised the importance of organisational strength in a political party.

“Through activities and programmes, the karyakartas maintain direct contact with leaders. This robust organisation has been nurtured by Damu Naik, and it is now vital to further strengthen it in Fatorda,” he said.

Former Fatorda MLA Damodar  Naik reflected on the party’s evolution. “Some say the party is changing, and it has to, given the times. Adopting new technology is part of this change. Despite challenges, like enrolling four lakh members, the public’s support for the BJP has been unwavering. While our vote share in Fatorda has increased, we still need to work harder and focus on the party’s goals, not individual agendas,” he said.

Lotlikar expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and called for collective efforts to achieve success. “I am thankful for this responsibility and look forward to working together to deliver fruitful results,” she said.

Outgoing president Manohar Borkar acknowledged the disappointment of not winning the assembly polls in Fatorda, but stressed the need to continue public service and efforts for future success.
