Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade has raised concern over the increasing number of online scams involving fake hotel
and homestay bookings in Goa and demanded a strong crackdown on fraudulent websites cheating tourists and harming popular
tourist destinations across the country.
Tanavade said he raised the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament. He said incidents of online fraud related to fake accommodation bookings were on the rise, with cyber fraudsters creating lookalike websites and duplicate portals of well-known hotels and booking platforms to dupe tourists into making advance payments.
He said such organised cyber networks continue to operate despite repeated advisories, resulting in financial losses to visitors and damaging India’s image as a safe tourism destination.
