Tuem Hospital Kruti Samiti has demanded clarity from the state government on whether Tuem Hospital will function directly under the management of Goa Medical College and Hospital or the Directorate of Health Services, stating that the recent notification lacks clarity on the issue.

The Samiti also demanded that preference be given to eligible local youth in recruitment at the hospital. It has asked the government to issue a clarification by January 27 and warned of a fast unto death from January 28 if the demands are not met.

Addressing a press conference at Tuem Hospital, the Samiti urged the government not to operationalise the hospital in haste and said it should be commissioned only after all facilities, infrastructure and staff are in place to run a full-fledged hospital.

Samiti president Jose Lobo, in the presence of advocate Prasad Shahapurkar, Tulshidas Raut, Devendra Prabhu Desai, advocate Jitendra Gaonkar, Nilesh Kandolkar and others, said the demand was for a full-fledged hospital at Tuem and not merely an OPD
or clinic. He reiterated that eligible local youth should be given preference in employment.

The Samiti also opposed any move to inaugurate the hospital building by starting OPDs on January 30. Members said that tenders for procuring essential equipment were floated in December 2025 and would take two to three months to be completed. They said the hospital should be started only after it is fully equipped and staffed to serve the people of Pernem.
