Canacona: The bodies of two elderly sisters were found in an advanced stage of decomposition at their residence in Mokhard, Sristhal, on Sunday night.
Police sources said they received a phone call at 9.40 pm from Prabhav Kamat, a resident of Cuncolim, informing them that his aunts had died inside their house and that a foul smell was emanating from the residence.
According to police, the two women’s bodies were found in an advanced stage of decomposition.
A suicide note and a bottle of clinic spirit were found inside the bedroom.
Police further learnt from the brother of the deceased women, Rekha Kamat (73) and Medha Kamat (70), that both were unmarried and had been residing together at Mokhard,Sristhal.
Sources also said local panch Ramu Naik said that around a week ago, he had met one of the sisters, who had mentioned during their conversation that she was frustrated with her life.
Police registered a case of unnatural deaths and sent the bodies for post mortem examination at SGDH, Margao.
The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death in both cases as, “No opinion in view of advance decomposition changes. However, samples of visceral organs are preserved for chemical analysis”.
Both bodies were subsequently handed over to their family members for final rites.
The inquiry is being conducted by PSI Ramdas Doifode of Canacona police station.
