Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, during a Seva Sankalp Abhiyan programme at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) on Thursday, highlighted various health sector initiatives and infrastructure in the state.
He said that the Jan Aushadhi initiative was started during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure so that expensive medicines could be made available at the lowest possible rates, ensuring that people receive treatments affordably.
“Similarly, the Ayushman Bharat scheme was launched to make treatments accessible to the underprivileged. Today, just like the Deen Dayal
card in Goa, the PM Ayushman card enables people across the country to access medical care.”
The programme is part of a month-long statewide social initiative running from September 17 to October 17, 2026, to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday and his completion of 25 years in executive public office.
“The purpose is to raise awareness and ensure people understand the various projects, policies, and philosophy initiated during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure. Under his leadership, the vision of making India free from terrorism, TB, and addiction are also being pursued,” said Sawant.
Sawant said that the medical seats at Goa Medical College were increased and the Super Specialty Hospital, Divyang Center and Spinal Rehab Center were established.
“Medical seats increased—first by 50, then another 50, totaling an increase of 100 seats—during Modi’s tenure. The Divyang Center established at GMC provides free equipment and aids to individuals with disabilities.”
Sawant said that, over the next month, programmes would be held in various locations.
“Today, India’s standing globally in both economic and infrastructure development is growing rapidly, and this message must reach everyone, including youth and women,”
he said.
PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, who was present, said, “We all know and have witnessed where Modi has taken this country over the years. Today, when the world looks for direction, they look toward Modi. In his direction, India’s standing has risen so high.”
