Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday inaugurated an upgraded road underbridge near Tanya Hotel and laid the foundation stones for a multi-purpose sports complex and a new market complex in Vasco.

The railway underbridge has been upgraded at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. The multi-purpose sports complex will be developed at a cost of Rs 54 crore, while the market complex will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore.

“Rs 140 crore has been allocated for Vasco’s development to improve infrastructure. Twenty-two development projects are currently underway within a 5-km radius,” said Sawant, adding that the city, which he described as the ‘gateway of Goa’, had faced neglect over the years.

He said there are plans to redevelop the Vasco bus stand under a public-private partnership model, with operations under KTC and part of the space to be used for commercial purposes.

“The market complex will be completed within one year while the sports complex is expected to be completed within one and a half years,” said Sawant. He said that projects for which foundation stones were laid have been completed.

Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho,  Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, MLAs Krishna Salkar, Sankalp Amonkar,  MMC chief Girish Borkar also spoke on the occasion.
