Vasco: Taxi owners met with Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas on Monday to oppose the introduction of a cab aggregator app in Goa, stating that such a move would directly impact Goan livelihoods.

They said that taxi operations are among the few businesses still controlled by Goans and alleged that bringing in an app-based system would shift the business away from locals.

“When the Transport Director informed us about the decision, we unanimously opposed it. We charge fares as per the government gazette, not arbitrarily. Let the government fix one rate for all, and there will be no need for cab aggregators,” said a representative of the taxi owners.

They alleged that although the government had invited suggestions and objections, many taxi operators were unable to present theirs due to Section 163 of BNS Act imposed in North Goa.

Vas said that many Goans have invested heavily in cars. “They have EMIs to pay. I will present their concerns to the Chief Minister,” Vas said.
