Former Delhi chief minister Atishi and Benaulim AAP MLA Venzy Viegas on Friday inaugurated an integrated VR Science Lab at Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, Carmona, set up using the MLAs’ funds.
Viegas stated that every school in Benaulim would be provided with a similar laboratory as part of efforts to develop future-ready schools, while Atishi called on Goan politicians to introspect on why they had never used their funds to invest in aided schools.
“While many MLAs, ministers and even chief ministers had studied in aided schools, it is a shame that none used their MLA funds to improve their facilities,” said Atishi. The Integrated VR Science Lab will enable students to experience 21st-century learning and is equipped with virtual reality learning equipment, programmes and other educational tools demonstrated during the inauguration.
“The facilities surpass those available in many private schools and have brought the learning experience at the aided school on par with, or even better than, private institutions,” said Atishi.
Viegas stated that it was an emotional moment for him to use MLA funds to upgrade the school in Carmona where he had studied.
He stated that Arvind Kejriwal’s vision for education had inspired him to join the Aam Aadmi Party and added that he wanted to show the people of Benaulim what implementing that vision meant.
“All eight schools in Benaulimare now equipped with rooftop rainwater harvesting systems funded through MLA allocation,” said Viegas, adding that this was not the case even in the constituencies of the Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister.
He added that all schools in Benaulim now have access to e-libraries, benefiting around 4,500 students.
“Renovation works have also been carried out at the school and another higher secondary school, while every church and temple in the constituency has been provided with solar-powered infrastructure to reduce electricity bills,” he said.
He added that every Goan should have access to quality, world-class education regardless of income.
