The Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Friday demanded that the state government publish a white paper within 10 days on a racing event held at Mopa earlier this year. The event was linked to a Chennai-based company.
The party also alleged that the BJP-led government waived an electricity bill of Rs 2 crore for the event while ordinary consumers continue to face penalties and power disconnections over unpaid bills.
Addressing a press conference, GFP vice-president Dilip Prabhudesai sought details of the total expenditure on the event, concessions granted, ticket revenue generated and the amount received by the state government.
“Under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Entertainment Society of Goa and Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL), the event revenue was to be paid to the government within one month after the event,” said Prabhudesai, questioning whether the payment had been made.
He further stated that if the details were not made public, GFP would approach the Vigilance Department.
Prabhudesai also alleged that the issue involved a scam of Rs 56.9 crore, including Rs 36.9 crore spent on the event and Rs 20 crore on roads and other works.
“The government must now disclose whether it received its promised 30 per cent share of ticket revenue or explain where the money went,” Prabhudesai said.
“Goans deserve transparency and the government must answer,” he said.
