In a disturbing incident, a 27-year-old woman was found without clothes on the Bastora flyover near the Tar junction early Tuesday morning.

According to Mapusa police, the woman was rushed to the North Goa District Hospital and, following a medical examination, she was referred to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim. Doctors in the casualty observed that the woman showed signs of self-harm and mental illness.

Police said the matter is being investigated from all angles, including how the victim reached the flyover. They said as per the preliminary investigation, there is no evidence of any recent assault on the woman.

North Goa Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta said police received a call around 4.40 am that a woman at Tar junction was in need of help. “Accordingly, Robot-14 was diverted to the spot and the victim was shifted to the North Goa District Hospital for treatment in a 108 ambulance,” he said.

Gupta said that when Mapusa police officials, including LPSI Ravina, PSI Yeshwant Mandrekar and others, visited the district hospital, the victim turned aggressive. “The woman was referred to a psychiatrist, who said she needed to be examined at IPHB,” said Gupta.

The North Goa SP said the woman had earlier filed a complaint with Porvorim police alleging that one Bruno Fernandes had brought her to Goa from Uttar Pradesh. “She was residing in a rented accommodation in Porvorim and had claimed that Fernandes and his friend had sexually assaulted her,” said Gupta.

He said that accordingly, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Porvorim police station.

He further said that it was subsequently transferred to Mapusa and further to the women police station on the basis of the changing statements of the victim.

“She is found to be changing her statements even now and is not cooperative. It is possible that she may be showing some behaviour pattern; IPHB will take a call,” Gupta said.
