All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare said on Saturday that discussions with the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on forming an alliance for the Zilla Panchayat elections were “positive”, adding that the final outcome would be announced on Sunday.

The ZP elections are scheduled for December 20.

“You will know the final outcome tomorrow. Discussions were held and there was a positive approach,” Thakare told reporters when asked about the proposed Grand Opposition Alliance (GOA).

Thakare and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar held separate meetings with leaders of both parties at a city hotel.

RGP president Manoj Parab, who attended the meeting along with St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and treasurer Ajay Kholkar, said the discussion covered several issues, including the Santa Cruz seat, which he said had been assured to them, as well as concerns about defectors.

“We want an alliance. We will discuss the new proposal with our party members and by Sunday we will clear our stand,” Parab said. He added that the RGP had already filed nominations for 28 seats.

Parab also claimed that RGP had not breached any alliance understanding, stating that GFP and Congress had announced candidates individually instead of doing so jointly on a common platform.
