Goa’s campaign ends with innings and 147-run defeat

Raipur: Goa’s campaign in the Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite came to a disappointing end after they suffered an innings and 147-run defeat against Karnataka on the second day of their Group D match at the RDCA Ground in Raipur on Tuesday.

After being dismissed for 160 in their first innings, Goa were completely outplayed by Karnataka as they piled on 434 for six before declaring. Karnataka led their betting charge through Niranjan Ashok scoring 130 along with his teammate Rohith Reddy’s steady 104, while Syaamantak Anirudh contributed a solid 82 to put Karnataka in firm control of the contest in the 1st innings.

Asked to bat again, Goa failed to show much resistance and were bowled out for 127 in 39 overs. Adeep Miskin (27), Vinit Kamat (20) and Shaunak Teli, who remained unbeaten on 23, were the only batters to reach double figures for the Goan side. Suvik Gill was the chief destroyer with figures of six for 55, supported by Sukurth claiming 2 for 23 and Vidit’s 1 for 3

With this defeat, Goa finished their Group D campaign without a win, losing all five of their matches in the tournament.
