The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Saturday welcomed the decision of Goa Industrial Development Corporation’s (GIDC) initiative of reserving industrial plots for women entrepreneurs.
The industry body president Shrinivas Dempo said the initiative will have a positive impact on the state’s economy and encourage more women to take up entrepreneurship. He said the government by reserving plots has given traction to Nari Shakti highlighted in the Union Budget 2025.
“The move is a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and supportive ecosystem for women-led businesses in Goa. By providing exclusive access to plots, GIDC is enabling women entrepreneurs to overcome one of the major hurdles they face –
access to land and infrastructure,” said Dempo.
GCCI women’s wing committee chairperson Asha Arondekar said that the forward-thinking initiative of the government and GIDC will undoubtedly empower women entrepreneurs and promote gender equality in the industrial sector. GCCI said it has always been advocating preferential allotment of plots for women entrepreneurs in GIDC. GIDC has earmarked 20 industrial plots for women at Pissurlem, Kundaim, Panchawadi, Madkaim, Verna, Honda and Tuem.
