New Delhi: Germany is an important pillar of India’s engagement with Europe and a valued partner for promoting global peace and prosperity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz dialled him and they reviewed the progress of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership.
Marking 75 years of diplomatic relations this year, the two leaders noted the sustained momentum in high-level exchanges and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across key domains, including trade and investment, advanced technologies, clean energy, defense, education and talent mobility.
“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received a telephone call today from the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, H E Friedrich Merz. As India and Germany celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year, Prime Minister and Chancellor Merz reviewed the progress of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership,” a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and agreed to continue working closely to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.
Earlier, Modi, in a post on ‘X’, said India and Germany will continue to deepen the forward-looking strategic partnership for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
The Prime Minister said Germany is an important pillar of India’s engagement with Europe and a valued partner for promoting global peace, stability and prosperity. “Together, we will continue to deepen our forward-looking Strategic Partnership for the benefit of the people of our countries,” he said.
PM meets Prince Rahim Aga Khan V
New Delhi: Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, 50th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, and the two discussed India’s partnership with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in agriculture and rural development, among other areas.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V began his India visit on September 9 following an invitation from Vice President C P Radhakrishnan. He will be in India until September 15. “Happy to meet His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V. Fondly recalled his father, the late Aga Khan IV and his enduring contributions to development efforts,” Modi said.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s office said Modi appreciated AKDN’s longstanding contributions in India, particularly in sustainable urban development, water conservation, healthcare, rural sanitation, skill development for youth and women empowerment.
Modi also commended AKDN’s pioneering efforts in preserving India’s cultural heritage through the restoration and rejuvenation of historic sites across the country.
“His Highness the Aga Khan reaffirmed AKDN’s commitment to India’s inclusive growth and social progress. He appreciated India’s transformative development initiatives and shared his perspectives on the role of innovation in advancing human welfare,” the statement said.
Aga Khan will be visiting Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad, where the AKDN is involved in various development and community initiatives.
This is his first visit to India since his accession as the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community.
