KRC aims to bolster connectivity, capacity

Margao: To bolster infrastructure and enhance capacity, Konkan Railways Corporation (KRC) has unveiled its plans to construct three new railway stations in Goa in next three years.

Following a virtual media briefing by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw,  general manager, public relation officer Baban Ghatge disclosed that these stations will be situated in Sarzora in Salcete, and Neura and Mayem in North Goa.

“The new rail station projects will be financed by the KRC, utilising accumulated funds from its operations over the years,” he said, reaffirming the dedication to augment connectivity in the state.

Ghatge elaborated stating that the construction work of Sarzora station is currently in progress. The railway overpass has been completed, but access roads are yet to be developed.

“We will complete these works soon. The other two new railway stations will be set up within the next three years,” he added.

Joseph George, the executive director for Strategic and Business Development at the KRC, expressed his commitment to ensuring capacity enhancement of the new rail stations.

The Union Railway Minister has allocated Rs 482 crore for the Goa section of the South Western Railways, in addition to the investment of Rs 5,696 crore for various ongoing and proposed projects of the South Western Railways.
