The Goa police on Saturday said  the investigation into the biggest-ever seizure of drugs has dealt a big blow to the Golden Triangle-based drug smuggling racket.

So far, the police have arrested one ‘mule’ (courier)  and two members of the  well-organised international gang.

“Look-out circulars (LOCs) and Blue notice have been issued against other members of the gang who are hiding in Thailand,”  crime branch SP Rahul Gupta said.

Earlier this month, the crime branch police  arrested Goutham M (26), who hails from  Bengaluru and had been residing in Guirim, Mapusa. He was caught red-handed  for possessing  a transparent polythene packet containing dried greenish fruiting tops (buds) suspected to be hydroponic weed (ganja), weighing 11.672 kg and valued at Rs 11.67 crore. The drugs  were hidden in his rented room.

The contraband was supposed to be sold in Goa.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was contacted by his Bangkok-based friend Taslim,  who offered Rs 1,00,000 for delivering a drug consignment from the capital city of Thailand to India,” Gupta said..

Further revelations  led to the identification and arrest of Shilna A from Bengaluru.

“She is a key member of the group operating from Bangkok and coordinates with local suppliers in Bengaluru,” Gupta said.

Investigation has also revealed that Sreejil PP from Kannur, Kerala is a financial backbone of the gang and had booked international flight tickets for  Goutham and others  suspected to be involved in the drug syndicate, said Gupta.

Subsequently Sreejil was arrested.
