Fatorda: FC Goa were denied a point at home as substitute Soham Varshneya struck in the 90+3rd minute to hand Bengaluru FC a 2-1 win in the Indian Super League at Fatorda on Friday.
The Gaurs had fought back after falling behind to Borja Martinez’s 12th-minute opener. The Spaniard fired a left-footed effort from outside the box after a move involving Ryan Williams and Lalremtluanga Fanai.
FC Goa responded five minutes later when Muhammed Nemil set up Franchu, who beat Gurpreet Singh Sandhu with a right-footed strike from distance to restore parity.
With the contest seemingly headed for a draw, Bengaluru found a late winner. Ashique Kuruniyan drove forward in stoppage time before setting up Varshneya, who finished with his left foot to snatch all three points.
The defeat dealt FC Goa a setback at home, while the victory lifted Bengaluru to third in the standings, behind NorthEast United FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant, with a match in hand.
