Poriat: Calangute Association snatched a late 1-0 win over FC Goa in a Goa Professional League match at the Poriat ground on Tuesday.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides cancelling each other out and failing to create meaningful chances. The defining moment arrived in the 55th minute when FC Goa goalkeeper Lionel Rymmei was shown a straight red card for a last-man challenge on Jovito Fernandes outside the box.
Down to 10 men, FC Goa stayed organised and resilient, frustrating Calangute for long periods. Calangute came close in the 60th minute when a left-flank cross found Kumaran M, whose misdirected header
went to teammate Joywin Carneiro, but the keeper gathered it comfortably. Four minutes later, FC Goa nearly took the lead after Kumaran M fumbled a back pass, allowing Shaikh Ismail a clear chance, which was superbly blocked by the Calangute custodian.
Calangute finally broke the deadlock deep in stoppage time. Sheldon Pereira’s low-driven pass from the flank found Shaviz Pathan, who timed his run perfectly to slot the ball home in the 90+6th minute, securing a dramatic win. The win leaves Calangute seven points adrift of Sesa, holding the seventh spot in the standings.
