Calangute Association defeated Duner SC Mandrem 6-5 via tie-breaker in the 2nd Siolim Villagers Cup at St Antony’s ground, Siolim.
Calangute raced into an early two-goal lead with Nigel Silveira striking in the fourth minute before Samford Fernandes added another in the eighth minute.
Dunes SC fought back strongly as Cyprian Rodrigues pulled one back in the 17th minute, while Darwin Coelho netted the equaliser in the 28th minute to bring the contest level
before halftime.
The second half saw both teams create chances in search of the winner, but neither side managed to break the deadlock, forcing the match into penalties.
Calangute Association were more clinical in the shootout as Gauresh Dessai, Mervin D’Souza, Jovito Fernandes and Tanai Kerkar converted from the spot. Leslee Britto, Darwin Coelho and Reniel D’Mello were on target for Dunes SC, but it was not enough as Calangute advanced to the next round.
