Avner Mendonca takes away the tournament MVP honours
Fatorda: Don Bosco Oratory (DBO) Panjim dethroned defending champions Don Bosco Sports Academy (DBSA) Fatorda 42-33 to win the State Junior Basketball Championships 2026 at the Don Bosco College of Engineering Outdoor Court.
DBO Panjim made a strong start, leading 15-6 after the first quarter and 22-14 at halftime. DBSA Fatorda responded in the third quarter to draw level at 31-31, but Panjim dominated the final period, outscoring their opponents 11-2 to pull away.
Ryan Prabhudesai top-scored with 15 points and was named MVP of the final, while Avner Mendonca added 14 points and took tournament MVP honours. Aaron Ponraj (12) and Jude Fernandes (8) were the main contributors for DBSA Fatorda. In the semifinals, DBSA Fatorda beat NCS 55-43, while DBO Panjim edged Sonics 42-40.
Earlier, DBSA Fatorda defeated Ponda Basketball Club 54-19, NCS got past Lourdes 38-36, Sonics overcame Sharada Mandir 39-27, and DBO Panjim beat St Thomas Aldona 52-16. The tournament also served as the selection trials for the Junior National Championships in Pondicherry.
