Dempo SC emerged champions in the GFA U-18 Division I League after a 6-0 win over Sesa Football Academy at Ella Ground on Monday.
They topped the table with 25 points from 10 matches.
Dempo dominated proceedings from the outset creating waves of attacks. Their persistence paid dividends early when captain Jodric Abranches opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a stunning free-kick from nearly 25 yards out on the left flank, curling the ball into the far corner.
The skipper doubled the advantage in the 16th minute following a well-worked set-piece routine. Midfielder Phati Mayekar delivered a corner which was flicked into danger by Tejas Kamat before Abranches calmly slotted home his second of the evening.
Coach Pradip Chopdekar credited the players’ discipline and mentality for the successful season. “The players stayed focused, understood their roles well and showed great maturity in pressure situations. Their hunger for success and commitment throughout the season made the difference,” he said.
Chopdekar dedicated the triumph to the club’s technical and support staff, while also acknowledging the contribution of former technical director Katz Naidoo, manager John Dias and club president Shrinivas Dempo for their continued support.
