Ethan wins 3 medals for India

Goa’s IM Ethan Vaz brought laurels to India after winning three medals at the Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka.

Representing India in the U-20 category, Ethan won gold medals in the standard and rapid events, while securing silver in the blitz competition. In the standard event, Ethan registered victories over Sethika , CM Sivathanujan, Induwara all from Sri Lanka and, Goutham and Mary both from India. He also held GM Deepan of India, IM Liyanage of Sri Lanka and GM Shyaam Nikhil P of India to draws.

In the rapid, he recorded wins against AFM Pitigala of Sri Lanka, Rebecca of India, WCM Ahmed of Bangladesh, WFM Fang Kun of Singapore and CM Sivathanujan of Sri Lanka. He drew against GM Iniyan of India in the final round to clinch the U-20 gold medal.

In the blitz event, Ethan defeated Nkosikhona Jele of South Africa, WCM Ahmed Walijah of Bangladesh, Bongolethu Ncethelo of South Africa, FM Weerasekara Nimsara of Sri Lanka, GM Srihari of India and FM Sakline Sajid of Bangladesh to secure the U-20 silver medal.
