Steve Menezes’ lone strike hands them a 1-0 victory over St Sebastian, Murida
Cavelossim: A 10th-minute strike by Steve Menezes proved decisive as Fr Agnelo Sports and Cultural Club, Paroda edged past a spirited St. Sebastian Youth Club, Murida, Fatorda 1-0 to emerge champions of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup 2026, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at the Fr Druston and Wellington ground.
Both sides adopted an attacking approach, with Paroda’s forwards Godwin Fernandes and Livan Clemente posing a greater threat, only to be repeatedly denied by Murida goalkeeper Royston Colaco.
Murida came close early when Cliff Barreto’s diagonal pass found Joston Dias, whose effort struck the post and went out.
The all-important goal came when Salvin Fernandes advanced from defence and delivered a precise pass into the box for Steve Menezes, who controlled well, beat defender Samson and fired home past Colaco.
After the break, Murida pressed hard for the equaliser. Richi Vaz set up Hanslum Furtado on the right, but the latter’s effort was comfortably gathered by the Paroda goalkeeper.
Paroda had chances to extend the lead late on, but Midroy Menezes and Aswan Fernandes failed to convert. However, resolute defending led by Kanchan Kiro and Ryan Menezes ensured Paroda held on for victory.
Steve Menezes was named first scorer, while Fedrich Fernandes of Paroda was adjudged Man of the Match. Valito Miranda of Murida was declared Man of the Tournament, and Ravil Fernandes of Paroda won the Best Goalkeeper award. United Sports Club of Seraulim received the Best Disciplined Team prize.
