FC Goa will host Mohammedan SC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on March 4, with kickoff set for 7:30 pm IST, as they aim to finish the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 regular season on a high note.
With Jamshedpur FC’s 1-1 draw against Kerala Blasters FC, FC Goa have officially locked in a second-place finish. Even if the fourth-placed Red Miners win both their remaining matches, they can only reach 44 points, still one short of the Gaurs’ current tally of 45 from 22 games. Bengaluru FC, in third place, trail with 38 points from 23 matches. This means FC Goa will skip the one-off eliminator and head straight into the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan SC have struggled in recent outings, picking up just one point in their last five matches. They currently sit on 12 points from 22 games and will need a dramatic turnaround to trouble the Gaurs.
When these two sides last met in September 2024, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Another stalemate would make Mohammedan SC only the third team to hold FC Goa in their first two ISL meetings, following Mumbai City FC (2014) and East Bengal FC (2020-21).
The Gaurs have won their last four home games in the ISL. A victory in this fixture would mark only the third time they have recorded five or more consecutive home wins in a single season, having previously managed seven in 2019-20 and five in 2023-24.
Carl McHugh’s long-range strike against Punjab FC was FC Goa’s ninth goal from outside the box this season. If they manage one more, they will join an elite list of teams that have scored 10+ goals from beyond the 18-yard area in a single ISL campaign.
The Kolkata outfit registered a clean sheet in their last away match against Odisha FC (0-0 on February 28).
The only time they have managed consecutive shutouts this season was in January. Their three away clean sheets in 2025 are tied for the most in the league, alongside Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Mohammedan SC have conceded nine headed goals this season, the joint-most in the league alongside Hyderabad FC. Only Odisha FC have ever conceded more in a single ISL season (13 in 2021-22 and 12 in 2020-21).
This will be just the second ISL meeting between the two sides, with the first encounter in September ending in a 1-1 draw.
FC Goa have already punched their ticket to the semi-finals, but with home form at stake, they won’t take this fixture lightly. Mohammedan SC, desperate for a turnaround, will look to frustrate the Gaurs with a solid defensive display. Can FC Goa make it five straight wins at home, or will the visitors spring a surprise?
