Saiesh stars in eight-wicket win over Delhi to clinch Inter Zonal Junior title

Panaji: Goa produced a clinical all-round display to be crowned champions of the All-India Inter Zonal Junior Boys Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, defeating Delhi by eight wickets in the final held at Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

Chasing a modest target of 29, Goa cruised to 33/2 in just 2.2 overs, thanks to a blistering unbeaten 24 from Saiesh Naik, who was later named Man of the Match for his match-winning knock.

Earlier, Goa’s disciplined bowling attack dismantled Delhi for just 28 in 5.4 overs. Shaunak led the charge with remarkable figures of 3/5, while Chinmay (1/8), Sanam (1/10), and Shaurya (2/5) kept the pressure tight with the ball.

The title-winning performance came on the back of another dominant show in the semifinal, where Goa edged past Maharashtra by 11 runs in a low-scoring thriller. Batting first, Goa managed 33/6 in their six overs, with Shaurya Gaude and Chinmay Kerekar both contributing 12 runs. Maharashtra were bundled out for 22 in 5.5 overs, with Chinmay (2/8), Shaurya (2/5), Sanam (1/7), and Shaunak (1/2) sharing the spoils.
