Peddem: Wazir Singh, Shaina Manimuthu, Bornil Akash Changmai, and Rishika Nandi emerged as champions at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025, which concluded on Sunday at the Multipurpose Stadium in Peddem.
Punjab’s Wazir Singh capped an impressive campaign in the Boys U-15 Singles, defeating Delhi’s Harshit Khatri 21-18, 21-17 in the final, having already ousted top seed Pushkar Sai in the semis. Karnataka’s top-seeded Shaina Manimuthu stormed to the Girls U-15 title, comfortably dispatching Aryama Chakraborty of West Bengal 21-9, 21-13.
In the Boys U-15 Doubles final, Haryana’s Jaivardhan Hooda and Delhi’s Harshit Khatri rallied from a game down to overcome Delhi’s Vivaan Bisht and Chinmay Krishna Nimmagadda 19-21, 21-11, 21-18. Maharashtra’s Sharayu Ranjane stood out with two titles—teaming with Soyara Shelar to clinch the Girls U-15 Doubles (21-23, 21-12, 21-15) and partnering Andhra’s Hemanth Sri Sammetla to win the Mixed U-15 Doubles (21-16, 21-10).
Assam’s Bornil Akash Changmai delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament, dismantling top seed Dev Ruparelia of Maharashtra 21-10, 21-8 in the U-17 Boys Singles final. Delhi’s Rishika Nandi proved dominant in the U-17 Girls Singles, beating Tamil Nadu’s Mohitha Polavaram 21-18, 21-11.
The U-17 doubles categories saw Karnataka reign supreme. Pavan S. and Punith S. triumphed in the Boys Doubles with a 21-14, 21-18 win over Manipur’s Rishav Ngangom and Mangsuan Vemai Kyoveio, while Aditi Deepak Raj and Vriddhi Ponnamma B. V clinched the Girls Doubles after a 21-16, 21-19 win over Suhina Roy and Aikya Shetty. Aditi then partnered Punith S. to complete her double, winning the U-17 Mixed Doubles title 19-21, 21-18, 21-13 over Tamil Nadu’s Taranraj Raja and Krithya Siva Sankar.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Manoj Patil, Praveen Shenoy, Sanjay Bhobe, Wayne Fernandes, Navneet Nasnodkar and Samir Sangodkar.
