Three men arrested for burgling 4 city shops

The Panaji police have arrested three people from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly burgling four city shops and making away with over Rs 1.60 lakh in cash from in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

The police said that a few hours after the incident, the accused were nabbed from a bus in which they were travelling to Kolhapur, Maharashtra. 

Accused are identified as Mustakeen Dasna, Mohammad Musahid alias Gabaru and Mohammad Chote, all hail from Uttar Pradesh.

Solid groundwork of the police and Smart City cameras played  a crucial role in achieving a  breakthrough in the case, the police said.

“The intelligence of the Panaji police’s beat staff was so good that the accused were traced to the bus in which they had been  making their  escape. The accused were arrested with the help of the Kolhapur police,”  North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said.

Giving details of the thefts,  the police said the accused got into the shops by bending the shutters. The shops are located near the old secretariat and near the city municipal garden, the police said.

Four complaints were lodged before the Panaji police in this connection.

Referring to the complaint filed by Mayank Madiar, the police said unknown persons bent the shutter of the shop  ‘W for Woman’, and also broke the toughened glass  to gain entry into  the establishment.  The  accused committed a theft of Rs 11, 000 in cash from the shop.

The police said another complaint was filed by Rahim Virani.

Virani claimed  that unknown persons effected entry into  the shop ‘Mansur Enterprises’ by bending the shutter and committed a theft of Rs 1,50,000 in cash.

Referring to the complaint of Prayot Vaigankar, the police said three unknown persons with their common intention intruded his into the shop ‘Aaradhya Wine Stores’, near old secretariat by bending the shutter and committed  a theft of Rs 3,470 in cash and a mobile phone worth around Rs 10,000.

Referring to the complaint filed by Milton Barreto, the police said  unknown persons with their common intention effected entry into  the complainant’s shop ‘Casa Barreto’, near the city municipal garden, by bending the shutter of the shop and committed theft of Rs 5,000 in cash.
