Iranians have endured nearly two weeks of what activists describe as the longest and most exten-sive internet shutdown in the Islamic Republic’s history, following nationwide protests and a vio-lent crackdown that has reportedly killed over 4,000 people.
Internet access was cut on January 8, leaving only limited connectivity to some domestic websites and partial access to Google search. Businesses reliant on online platforms have been hit hard, with many reporting drastic losses.
The shutdown has compounded existing economic distress caused by a collapsing curren-cy, high inflation and fuel price hikes. Officials have given no timeline for restoration, deepening uncertainty across the economy.
