‘Surge of Rs 75.51 crore in December collection’

Special Correspondent

Panaji: Stating that there is a growth in the state’s revenue collection for the month of December, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said there has been a remarkable surge of Rs 75.51 crore as compared to the same month, in the last year.

“This year’s numbers reflect a strong upward trend, signal positive economic momentum,” he said, pointing out, “For the period from April to December 2024, Goa’s total revenue reached Rs 4,614.77 crore, which is Rs 365.43 crore more than the amount of Rs 4,249.34 crore earned during the same period in 2023.”

“This substantial increase encompasses both Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Value Added Tax (VAT) revenues, showcasing the state’s improved economic performance,” Sawant said.

Further, breaking down the related growth from April to December 2024, Sawant who also holds the Finance portfolio, said the GST revenue witnessed a boost of 9.62% for these nine months, reflecting the effectiveness of tax reforms and economic activities.

“The VAT revenue also recorded a growth of 6.41%, contributing positively to the overall earnings,” he said, noting that the overall revenue growth, combining both, GST and VAT, stands at an impressive 8.60%.

Coming out with these state revenue figures on the eve of the New Year, the Chief Minister said that these figures highlight Goa’s continuous economic growth and fiscal health, thus making December 2024 a significant milestone for the state.

It may be noted that Sawant, while presenting a Rs 26,855.56 crore revenue surplus budget for the financial year 2024-25, had not imposed any new tax on Goans. However, he had come out with certain measures to generate additional revenue for the state exchequer.
