DKA honours winners of Konkani literature contest

The Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) recently held a prize distribution ceremony for the Fr. Conceicao D’Silva Sahityik Spordha, a Konkani literature contest named after its late vice-president. The event took place at the Reginald Conference Hall, DKA, Panaji.

Managing director of M/S Queeny Realty Private Limited, Agnelo Alcasoas, was the chief guest, while Dr. Aida Dourado, lecturer at Mount Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Chinchinim, was the guest of honour.

DKA organises various literary competitions each year to promote Konkani in the Roman script and encourage young writers.

In the poetry category, Fr. Alvison Fernandes secured the first prize, followed by Patsmenia A. F. D’Costa in second place and Quiton Pereira in third. Benjamin Francisco Vaz and Slifon Simoes received consolation prizes.

For essays, Aleixinho Fernandes won first place, with Nigel Noel Pereira and Alvaro Gomes securing second and third prizes, respectively.

In the short story category, Agnelo Pires took the top prize, followed by Malisha F. Fernandes in second place and Sigrid Jane da Cunha in third.

Gabriel (GR) Crasto won first place in the one-act play category, with Richardson Colaco and Stancio Fernandes securing second and third places, respectively.

The song lyrics category for Konkani compositions saw Godwin T. Afonso win first prize, Maria M. Monteiro secure second place, and Sr. Aida Rodrigues take third. Pedru Rodrigues received a consolation prize.

For song lyrics based on any other theme, Avito Pires de Menezes won the top prize, while Edwin (Eddie) Fernandes and Freddy I. D’Souza secured second and third places, respectively. Luiza Pereira e Luis and Vicente F. R. Menezes received consolation prizes.

Congratulating the winners, DKA president Celso Fernandes urged them to continue contributing to Konkani literature and protect the legacy of Roman Konkani writing.
