The Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) recently celebrated ‘Konkani Journalism Day’ at MES Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar.

February 2 is an important day in Konkani history because it celebrates the publication of the first Konkani newspaper, Udentichem Sallok, edited by Eduardo Jose Bruno de Souza, in 1889. The newspaper was published in Roman script.

The event also featured a panel discussion with senior journalist Alister Miranda, Gulab magazine editor Fausto Da Costa, and journalist Savio Dias.

The discussion, moderated by Daniel de Souza, focused on the challenges faced by Konkani journalism in newspapers, magazines, and digital media. The panelists agreed on the need for a Romi Konkani newspaper to help promote and protect the language.

Among the other distinguished guests present there were principal of MES Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce Dr. Manasvi M. Kamat, secretary of DKA Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto and Satyawan
Naik.
