A special TB awareness float was showcased at this year’s Goa Carnival in Panaji, Margao, Vasco, and Mapusa, as part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP). The objective was to raise awareness about TB and encourage screenings as part of the 100-day campaign leading up to World TB Day on March 24.
With the theme ‘Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver’, the float highlighted symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, weight loss, and night sweats while informing people that diagnosis and treatment are available free of cost at both public and private hospitals in Goa.
The float also promoted government schemes like Nikshay Poshan Yojana, which provides Rs. 1,000 per month to TB patients, and the Nikshay Mitra Initiative, which supports them with nutritious food.
It emphasised preventive measures, TB therapy, and adult BCG vaccination. Volunteers encouraged people to download the TB Arogya Sathi app for more information and support.
