The Goa Wings Program, formerly known as the Goa Bird Race, was held recently. Supported by HSBC and organised by the Goa Bird Conservation Network, the event brought together birding enthusiasts.
While participants usually cover locations across Goa, this year’s focus was on five talukas—Bardez, Tiswadi, Ponda, Mormugao, and Salcete—to make it easier for teams to explore multiple sites within shorter distances. The event’s primary objective is to unite birders and encourage the documentation of avian diversity.
The survey began at 6 a.m., with teams spreading out in different directions, and concluded at 5 p.m. at a designated venue, where sightings were verified and compiled.
A total of 220 species were recorded, with sightings including the Orange-breasted Green Pigeon, Ruddy-breasted Crake, Black-backed Dwarf Kingfisher, Isabelline Shrike, and
Bristled Grassbird.
