Startups in the state as
well as entrepreneurs, students from the Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi and private engineering colleges are being invited to participate in the mining ministry promoted AI Hackathon 2025, a mineral hackathon focused on critical minerals using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The hackathon is aimed at fostering innovation in exploration, processing, research and development in the mining sector. It is being conducted on the
IndiaAI platform, a website developed by the
Union government for implementation of AI across the country.
The initiative aims to enable the identification of new potential areas for exploration of critical minerals like REE, Ni-PGE, and copper, as well as other commodities like diamond, iron, manganese, and gold within a pre-defined 39,000 sqkm area in the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, disclosed mines ministry officials on Thursday, at the road show event of the 5th tranche of auction of critical mineral blocks and the 1st tranche of exploration license blocks.
IndiaAI is partnering with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) for the competition. The partnership leverages advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for mineral prognostication using state-of-art techniques practiced globally including interpretation, modelling and integration of multi-parametric geo-science data with emerging technologies such as AI/ML.
The aim is to use geo-science data like geology, geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing, borehole data, etc, to identify new target areas for mineral exploration, particularly concealed and deep-seated ore bodies, said a GSI official.
“Hackathon 2025, has increased the area to 40,000 sqkm, in the Hubli- Kolar regions of Karnataka which are rich in mineral deposits,” the official said.
