Valpoi

The Valpoi police have cracked down on an illegal beef transportation network, arresting four people and confiscating 500 kg of beef valued at approximately Rs 2.75 lakh.

The operation took place early in the morning at the Keri check post in Chorla Ghat, Valpoi.

The crackdown came within eight days after a similar seizure of bovine meat was made at the Margao railway station.

The arrested people have been identified as Amaanali Hussainsab Dessai, Sayyed Aminsab Mokashi, Sohail Salim Naikwadi, and Irfan Asif Bagwan. Along with the beef, two vehicles used in the illegal transport were also seized and attached under panchanama.

The total estimated value of the confiscated vehicles and meat is  Rs 18 lakh.

A case has been registered under Section 8 of the Goa Animal Preservation Act, 1995.
