Will Jacks’ all-round show hands them four-wicket win
Mumbai: Mumbai Indians continued their upward march in the IPL with a commanding four-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. On a pitch offering grip and turn, MI assessed the conditions better and delivered a disciplined all-round performance to chase down 163 with 11 balls to spare.
Will Jacks starred with both bat and ball, finishing with 36 off 26 (3x4s, 3x6s) and bowling a tidy 3-0-14-2. MI’s fast bowlers set the tone, using slower deliveries and yorkers to perfection. Jasprit Bumrah (4-0-21-1) and Trent Boult (4-0-29-1) were exceptional, while Jacks and Hardik Pandya (1 wicket) chipped in crucially. SRH, despite a late surge, managed 162/5 after struggling for momentum for most of their innings.
Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28, 7x4s) gave SRH a brisk start but fell to Pandya, thanks to a fine catch by Raj Angad Bawa. Travis Head (28 off 29) and Ishan Kishan (2) couldn’t capitalise, while Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28, 3x4s, 2x6s) provided a late lift. SRH scored 57 runs in the last five overs, with Aniket Verma and Pat Cummins hitting three sixes in the final over off Pandya.
Chasing 163, MI got a flying start with Rohit Sharma (26 off 16, 3x6s) setting the tone. Though he fell early, Ryan Rickelton (31), Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 15, 2x4s, 2x6s), and Jacks kept MI ahead with aggressive intent. Hardik Pandya added a vital 21 off 9 balls before Tilak Varma (21* off 17) finished the job. MI’s third win of the season came through clear plans, smart bowling changes, and aggressive batting — all key ingredients in a confident team finding its rhythm.
