Valpoi: Valpoi police arrested two people for illegal sale of meat and seized approximately Rs 3 lakh worth of beef, along with slaughtering equipment and a weighing machine.
SDPO Jivba Dalvi said that a joint inspection was carried out on Sunday by officers from the Veterinary Dispensary, Valpoi, and the Valpoi police at a meat shop in Nagvem, Sattari. During the inspection it was found that accused Mudassar Shaikh and Riyaz Khan were selling beef sourced from cattle slaughtered in a cruel manner.
An FIR was filed against Shaikh Cold Storage and Al Khan Storage under various sections of the Goa Animal Preservation Act, 1995, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Goa, Daman, and Diu Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1978.
The complaint was filed by veterinary officer Dr Shiddesh S Pednekar.
