Fatorda: Evan Antonio Telles and Aaradhya Dessai clinched top honours at the All Goa U-7 Open & Girls State Chess Championship 2025 held at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium recently. Both players remained unbeaten to claim the state titles in the Open and Girls categories respectively.
Evan secured 6 points, defeating Aarush Naik Parulekar in the final round to top the Open Category. Aaradhya finished with 5 points after overcoming Kavyshree Bhosle in her final match. In the Open Category, Nirbhay Gaude and Schaffer Viegas claimed second and third place with 5 points each, winning Rs 1,000 and Rs 800 respectively. Vivaan Kadam, Shrihan Chougale, and Aarush Parulekar followed in fourth to sixth positions.
Among the girls, Jigyasa Gawas finished second with 4 points, while Yajwari Shetye placed third with 3.5 points. The top six were awarded cash prizes and trophies. Salcete taluka’s best performers were Dwennon Viegas and Eliaza Barreto. Top players from both categories will represent Goa at the U-7 Nationals in Odisha, scheduled from June 1–5.
