Panaji: Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao, highlighting the importance of protecting the Constitution, said that

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar “gave us rights under the Constitution, and we need to protect them.”

Speaking at a meeting at Azad Maidan, as part of the Congress’ nationwide ‘Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan’ on Tuesday, he also said, “We must also protect our unity.”

“BJP is targeting minorities, which requires a unified response. It has put Goa on fast-track sale. Many land scams are taking place under this government by way of land conversions,” said the LoP.  He added, “BJP has failed to protect the Mhadei River, maintain law and order, stop crimes, protect the environment, provide central government jobs, and employment.”

GPCC president Amit Patkar said that under the Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan, “we sent a clear message… BJP’s days of betrayal and destruction are numbered”.

Patkar said, “In 2027, Congress will return to power to rebuild Goa, protect every Goan’s rights and bring real progress. This is not just a protest — it’s a revolution to reclaim Goa’s soul.”

During the meeting, Goa desk in-charge Manickrao Thakre, secretary in-charge for Goa Anjali Nimbalkar, MP Viriato Fernandes,  MLAs Carlos Ferreira,  Altone D’Costa, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Girish Chodankar, besides Patkar, were present.

Prior to the meeting, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) said that they were supposed to hold a march from Divja circle, Panaji to Azad Maidan, Panaji, however the permission for it was declined.
