Sankhali : The project ‘Pani Adwa Pani Jirwa’ and borewell work were launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Wednesday at Sankhali Ravindra Bhavan.

To be implemented in collaboration with the Water Resources Department, this Ravindra Bhavan has become the first to have such a project in a government establishment.

The Chief Minister lauded the project.

He said that “Goa receives a lot of rain but no one thinks of storing the rainwater and reusing it. In fact, everyone relies only on the water provided through taps at the government level. The government is also optimistic that rainwater can be stored and used for various purposes. The government is always at the forefront of backing such projects and other government institutions should also take the initiative to implement such projects.”

Along with this, effort should also be made to improve environment by planting trees on a large scale, the Chief Minister.

Ravindra Bhavan Vice President Dattaram Chimulkar said that “the large area of Ravindra Bhavan results in significant rainwater runoff. Currently, this water flows through the sewer system and eventually reaches the river via drains.” To address this, he said, under the “Pani Adwa Pani Jirwa” campaign, a well will be dug to collect rainwater and additionally, a borewell will be drilled nearby to further store this collected water in tanks at a designated location within Ravindra Bhavan. “The stored water will then be utilised for the building’s needs. This approach aims to reduce the consumption of tap water, consequently lowering the cost of water bills,” he said.

Vinod Bhandari, junior engineer of the Water Resources Department, also gave information about the project.

Besides Chimulkar and Bhandari, director Atul Malik, Dinkar Ghadi, Shashikant Narvekar, Srirang Sawal, Satu Mainkar, Sneha Desai, Raviraj Chiri were present.
