The council also adopted a resolution to execute a deed of exchange with the Confraria of the Chapel of Borda. The exchanged land will be used for the long-pending Kabrasthan project. The proposed burial ground is slated to be developed on a 31,191 square metre plot in the Sonsoddo area, which was acquired by the MMC decades ago.

Another resolution was passed to allocate additional space for installing an electrical transformer at the Old Fish Market site to support the construction of a water tank meant for firefighting purposes.

“We had previously resolved to allocate the area to the PWD for the construction of the much-needed water tank. The PWD has initiated the tender process, and the works will commence soon. We resolve to provide additional space to accommodate the requirements of the electricity department for the installation of a transformer,” MMC chairperson Damodar Shirodkar said.

The councillors further resolved to provide Rs 2 lakh in compensation to Minaxi Daune, widow of

former MMC worker Chandrakant Daune, who was terminated over absenteeism a decade ago.

In another resolution, the council upheld the former chief officer’s decision to revoke the trade licence of Mohammed Ashraf Nagarwala due to insufficient documentation for title clearance and other required permits.

Additionally, the council approved the use of funds to modify garden benches to prevent their misuse.

Finally, the councillors extended the deadline for door-to-door waste collection contractors until July 31. The additional costs will be covered from municipal funds.
