Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, and Sonics A secured championship titles in the U-17 categories at the All-Goa Fr Benedict Furtado 5-a-side Basketball Tournament held at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.

The tournament, featuring age groups from U-10 to U-17, saw Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, finish as runners-up in both U-17 boys and girls divisions. Aaron Ponraj from Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, and Enira Fernandes from Sonics A were named best players in their respective categories.

In the U-16 division, Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, claimed the boys title with Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, as runners-up. Avner Mendonca from the winning team was adjudged best player.

Sonics A dominated the girls category, defeating Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, with Kim D’Souza earning best player honors.

Don Bosco High School, Panjim, topped the U-14 boys category ahead of Loyola Ignitus, Margao, with Fahim Shaikh named best player.

Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda won the girls division, with Natalie Fernandes claiming individual
honors.

Loyola, Margao, secured the U-12 boys title, defeating Don Bosco, Fatorda. Adriel Rosario earned best player and highest scorer awards, while Tanay Rane was recognized as most disciplined player.

The mixed U-10 category saw Loyola (A), Margao, defeat their B team counterparts, with Varian Caeiro named best player.

Provincial of Goa-Konkan Fr Clive Telles served as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, joined by numerous dignitaries including Goa Basketball Association president Shane Dias and secretary Parind Nachinolkar.

In his address, Fr Telles praised tournament namesake Fr Benedict Furtado as a “friend of youngsters” whose enthusiasm inspired many to join the
priesthood.
