Michael’s take: State ministers not doing their work properly

Calangute: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has criticised cabinet ministers for “failing” to perform their duties properly, stating that this is forcing Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to respond to queries posed to the ministers in the state Legislative Assembly.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event held in Calangute to offer floral tributes to Goa’s first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar, Lobo said, “These days, the Chief Minister is answering questions on behalf of wthe ministers, which clearly indicates they are not doing their job or working for the welfare of the people.”

Lobo stressed that ministers need to take their responsibilities seriously.

Citing a recent assurance by the Chief Minister to establish a dog rehabilitation and care centre, Lobo argued that the initiative is further proof of ministers not working properly.

“The entire Goan coastline is overrun with stray dogs—many of them are infected with wounds and are potentially dangerous. Tourists and locals are being attacked. How can we expect tourism to thrive under such conditions? Will the government act only after a life is lost?” he questioned.

The BJP legislator pointed out that incidents of dog bites are reported daily across the coastal belt from Mandrem to Canacona—including beaches, villages, hospitals, health centres, fish markets, and meat markets.

“In the coming days, there’s a real risk of rabies. The Chief Minister’s promise to set up a dedicated dog care facility is a welcome relief for locals and tourists alike. I hope it becomes a reality soon,” Lobo said.

He added that once the stray dog issue is addressed, he would urge the Chief Minister to also take action against the stray cattle menace and establish a Goushala (cattle shelter).
