Vasco: PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, on Monday, directed that the service road from Dabolim to MES College be repaired by September 30, warning the contractor against causing inconvenience to the public.
Kamat said no work on major project will begin in the state unless alternate roads are ready for use.
Kamat, accompanied by Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, inspected the road stretch where flyover work is underway.
During his visit, Kamat heard complaints from residents about the poor condition of the road and told the contractor he would personally visit again on September 25 or 26 to check the progress.
“I have already told my department that no major work like construction of a flyover will begin unless an alternate road for public use is completed. Commuters should not be troubled, and all routes, even for locals, must be properly constructed,” he said.
He added that once the repairs are completed, clearance may be obtained from the DySP Traffic to open the road.
Meanwhile, Kamat visited the PWD office in Baina, Vasco, to review and understand issues concerning roads, water supply, and electricity in the area.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar and councillor Deepak Naik were also present. “Today, I had a function to attend in Zuarinagar, so I came here as well. This is my style of working—whenever I visit places for any reason, I make sure to visit the offices in my department. This visit was to understand the functioning and operations of our department in Vasco.”
My interaction with Salkar gave me an understanding of the roads in Vasco.
The work of underground cabling is going on, and once it is over, roads will be repaired. Kamat was seen engaging in discussion with Naik and others related to works of the PWD in Vasco and issues faced by the public.
